Did your self-esteem tank throughout the pandemic? If so, you’re not alone. Since most of us quarantined home, many of us gained some weight, unhealthy habits, and even lost interest in a few hobbies. However, now that the pandemic is starting to slow down and the world is slowly reopening, it’s time to stop working, put yourself out there, and begin practicing summer self love.
The summer season is perfect for taking the well-deserved time off from work to relax, have fun, and care for yourself. You can slow down and ease your way back into regular self-love and self-care routine during this season. Also, it’s the perfect time to show yourself love and care during a season filled with weight loss ads and unnecessary bikini photos. This post will discuss a few simple ways you can practice summer self care and love.
Why Is Summer Self Love Important?
If you recently tried to get a summer body or have seen a recent weight loss advertisement, please raise your hand. I know I have.
Every summer, companies start promoting their latest dieting plans, pills, drinks, and products with the promise of helping you to achieve your weight loss goals. However, the constant pressure to purchase these products can result in body dysphoria, low self-esteem, self-hatred, depression, and so much more.
With these products and services constantly promoted, it starts a vicious self-hating cycle that can be difficult to break for someone who suffers from mental health and eating disorders such as depression, bulimia, anorexia, bipolar disorder, anxiety,..etc.
That’s why it’s more important now than ever to practice summer self love and care. So, here are five ways to practice self love with summer self care.
Summer Self Love Tips
Block/Unfollow Toxic Weight Loss Accounts
The best summer self love tip is to unfollow those Instagram “weight loss experts” who claim to know the secret to achieve the perfect body for the summer season. One of the main reasons most women suffer from low self-esteem and body image issues is that they think there is only one way to look beautiful.
By getting rid of these toxic influencers and media from your life, you’re giving yourself the chance to practice the ultimate form of self-love this summer: to accept yourself for who you are inside and out.
There are ways you can live slightly healthier, lose weight, and practice self love this summer without following those toxic influencers or weight loss experts. Instead of forcing yourself to blend into society’s physical expectations, practice summer self care and embrace your body.
The most important things to do during a weight loss journey when practicing self-love are shifting your mindset, knowing yourself, and finding confidence in yourself. I recommend reading this blog post to learn more about how weight loss and self love can go hand-in-hand.
Practice Mindful Journaling
If you’ve read any of my previous blog posts, then you know why I love to journal. Journaling is such significant self-improvement, self-care, and mental health tool. Taking the time to journal for self-love this summer is an excellent way to reflect, tend to your emotional needs, connect with yourself, and practice mindfulness.
There are many health benefits to journaling, such as improved mental health, reduced stress, increasing energy, improved mood, and boosted energy. In addition, using a journal or diary to practice self-love this summer will not only help you to see your personal growth but is fun and can help with passing the time.

Drink Lots Of Water
I don’t know if you knew this already, but it’s more important to drink water during the summer than in other seasons. This is because, during the summer, our bodies regulate temperature and stay cool through sweating. Since we sweat a lot during the summer, it’s crucial for us to consistently stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
On average, a person should have eight glasses or roughly two liters of water every day. During the warmer months, you should drink approximately two and a half liters. Sticking with water is the best way to stay hydrated.
Drinking water is one of the most basic forms of summer self love there is out there. It’s easy to do and can cost nothing when using steel or a reusable water bottle.

Who doesn’t enjoy a little summer cleaning? Reorganizing your home, moving, or rearranging items in your home can be a relaxing and fun way to pass the time and practice some self-care during the summer. In addition, being organized can help you feel calmer, more focused, and in control of life situations. Also, rearranging your home allows you to feel productive and requires less mental energy throughout the day.
My favorite way to practice summer self care by organizing is by moving furniture around or swapping things out from my storage unit. However, sometimes the house furniture is a little too heavy and requires and movers assistance. If you’re living in NY or NJ and can’t find a quick mover, then I recommend checking out these New Jersey last-minute movers.
Last-minute moves such as All In One Moving and Storage Inc, located in New Jersey, can quickly help meet the demand of outsourcing last-minute moving tasks. This company offers various moving services to fit multiple needs, such as a full packing service, fragile-only packing service, standard self-packing, unpacking, debris removal, storage, and more.
As mentioned previously, reorganizing and moving your home around is a relaxing and calm way to practice summer self care and love. In addition, an organized home promotes a happier and positive outlook which means you’ll be more likely to overcome challenging situations or see the good in some of them.
Get Adequate Rest
Sleeping is the most basic form of self love and care. On average young adults between 18 and 30 years old should be getting between 8 to 10 hours of sleep daily. It’s vital because sleep allows your body and mind to recharge before the following day. When you get enough rest, you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the world.
Without a good night’s rest, you run the risk of not functioning correctly the following day. In addition, since the sun sets later, it’s harder for us to sleep more difficult. Not getting enough sleep can also lead to several health problems such as feeling emotionally drained, physical exhaustion, and mental health illnesses.
How To Practice Consistent Self Love and Care?
Practicing summer self love and care is what will help you to feel the happiest this season. Since you will constantly be surrounded by people in bikinis, crop tops, and shorts this year, it’s crucial to find ways to care for yourself this season while not worrying about anyone else.
Self love and care helps the body to recognize what it needs and wants daily. However, life situations can get in the way of caring for ourselves, which ultimately resolves many physical and mental health issues. One of the best ways to be consistent in practicing self love and care is to incorporate it into your daily routine. A daily routine will help you stay on track with your daily tasks and help you to visualize your day.
