A lot changes in Fall. There are changes in the weather, our work and class schedules, the holiday season, our wardrobes, and our health. Everything around us changes quickly in Fall, which is why it’s crucial to think about new fall healthy habits.
The weather is getting colder, the days are longer, and the holiday season is back-to-back. These changes can be overwhelming and stressful for some, which leaves us unable to appreciate the beauty in these changes. So, while everything around us quickly changes, let’s talk about five healthy habits to have in the Fall.
Fall Healthy Habits
Not many people realize the importance of drinking water during the colder months. It’s much easier to get dehydrated during the Fall and Winter because the air is dryer and cooler. Drinking water and staying hydrated helps your body to regulate temperature and keep you warm.
Also, drinking plenty of water helps with skincare. Your skin is more likely to dry out and chap when exposed to cold weather. Drinking water helps to prevent it from becoming dry and keeps it clean and clear. Drinking water is one of these best healthy habits to have in the Fall.
Go Outside More
Even though the weather is getting colder, there’s no reason to become a homebody. Going outside is a great way to get a natural source of Vitamin D, which helps regulate calcium and phosphate in the body. Vitamin D is needed to keep bones, teeth, and muscles healthy. Also, partaking in physical activities such as running, walking, or hiking can help you destress and stay fit.
Also, if you struggle with seasonal depression, going outside and getting some cool breeze is a great way to improve your overall mood and get the sunlight needed to stay happy. In general, going outside is a healthy fall habit that everyone needs.
Get 8 Hours Of Sleep
As we start transitioning into our Fall schedules, it’s essential to get as much rest as possible. Unfortunately, the days are getting shorter, which means you’ll have less time to get the adequate amount of rest needed to get through the day. Adults should get anywhere between 8 to 12 hours of sleep, depending on their bodies and schedules.
Not getting the right amount of sleep can negatively impact your mood, work performance, attitude, and health.
This Fall, I challenge you to go to bed before midnight. Stay off your phone, don’t binge-watch your favorite television show, and make sure to eat earlier. Trust me, your mind and body will be thankful that you started this new fall healthy habit.
Take Your Vitamins
Yes, you read that correctly. You need to take your vitamins during the Fall. It’s one of the most important things you can do to take care of your health this season. However, it’s tempting to order out instead of cooking your meals during the colder months, especially if you’re feeling too lazy to shop for groceries.
Getting into the habit of cooking your meals is also a life skill that everyone should have. There are also many emotional and mental health benefits to cooking a home meal, such as lowering stress levels, increasing happiness, and finding pleasure in doing something off-screen. It’s a healthy habit to get into this Fall once you start feeling slightly lazy.
Mindfulness is a mental state in which a person is aware of what’s happening around them concerning how they’re feeling, behaving, and acting at that moment. Practicing mindfulness is a great way to get in tune with your spiritual self and is one of my favorite things to do. Being mindful isn’t meant to be complicated and doesn’t take much effort.
Fall is the perfect season for practicing mindfulness because it’s the season where people tend to be the most sentimental. With everything going on in the world, people take more time to acknowledge the more minor things in life and be present in the moment. But, unfortunately, as the season changes, we tend to lose track of time and forget to slow down and appreciate these moments. So this Fall, I encourage you to slow down, take a deep breath, and watch the leaves fall.
How Can Living A Healthy Lifestyle Help You This Fall?
Since the days are shorter and the weather is colder, people tend to fall on bad healthy habits in the Fall and Winter. However, living a healthy lifestyle is not only limited to the summer season. It’s year-round. Since you’re more likely to catch a common cold or Flu during the Fall and winter, it’s more important to keep a check on your health during these seasons at all times. Living a healthy lifestyle is important because it helps prevent chronic diseases, long-term illnesses, manage mental health, and lower your chances of death.
Taking care of your overall health is important every season. You can do so many things to better manage your health, including these healthy fall habits. For example, during the colder months, your body is working much harder to regulate body temperature, which means you’re burning more calories. Maintaining a healthier lifestyle can help transition from the summer to the Fall and winter as your body experiences these changes.
