Have you ever felt so angry that you cried? Have you ever felt so happy it made you feel sick to your stomach? If so, me too.

It’s normal to experience negative emotions once in a while. Emotions play an important role in how we think and behave. The emotions we feel each day can compel us to take action and influence the decisions we make about our lives. It affects the way we practice self-care and love, which is why I’ve chosen emotional wellbeing as the blogging theme for March. In this article, I will introduce what emotional wellbeing is and explain why it’s important.

What is Emotional Well-being?

Emotional well-being is the last of the 06 dimensions of self-care. It focuses on how you cope with your thoughts and emotions. Like mental well-being, the phrase emotional well-being or health can easily be used in conversation, even if no one is sure about the term’s meaning.

The difference between the two dimensions is that this one focuses on how you emotionally cope with negative thoughts, feelings, or situations. Emotional wellbeing also focuses on how you can positively react and cope with negative situations and the importance of understanding your inner emotions. It’s the last dimension in the 06 Dimensions of Self-Care.

I know what you’re probably thinking.

Isn’t emotional wellness and mental health the same thing?

No, they’re not the same, but they do go hand-in-hand.

Like mental well-being, the phrase emotional well-being or emotional wellness can easily be used in conversation, even if no one is sure about the term’s meaning. Mental well-being focuses on how we mentally cope with our feelings. In comparison, emotional well-being is about how our feelings affect our perceptions and how we emotionally react to situations.

It’s about having an awareness of your emotions and managing and properly expressing those feelings.

Why is It Important?

It’s important to have healthy coping skills to deal with uncomfortable emotions, like anger, anxiety, and sadness. Emotional self-care may include activities that help you acknowledge and express your feelings regularly. Whether you talk to a partner or close friend about how you feel or set aside time for leisure activities that help you process your emotions, it’s important to incorporate emotional self-care into your life.

There is no easy solution to improving your emotional health; however, there are many steps you can take to improve it. For instance, try to find the positive in challenging situations, overcome any weaknesses.

Emotional self-care is being kind to yourself, reducing stress, and taking care of your emotional well-being. It’s boosting yourself up when you’re feeling down or bad and making yourself emotionally stronger.

Why is Emotional Self-Care Important?

Self-care is important because it helps you maintain a healthy relationship with your physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental selves. It helps you to produce feelings of happiness and transmit those feelings to the people around you.

With emotional self-care, you’re taking the time to reflect, analyze, and deal with your innermost feelings. Emotional self-care is important to managing your overall emotional wellbeing. Without emotional self-care, you’d be pent up with negative emotions and on the verge of exploding all the time.
