Concept of fall skincare by Anna Gawlik

Caring for your skin during the colder months is essential, so I’m sharing my fall skincare essentials. An excellent skincare routine is necessary because it helps soothe and calm the mind. In addition, taking the day to wash your face correctly or treat yourself to a face mask comes with many health benefits, such as decreased mental health and lower stress.

I love taking care of my skin. In this post, I will list my favorite fall skincare essentials and where you can buy them.

Fall Skincare Essentials

  1. Retinol: helps unclog pores, exfoliate and smooth skin, diminishes the appearance of hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles, improves skin hydration, and treats acne. Check out the Olay Regenrist Retinol 24 at Target.
  2. Heavy Moisturizer: As the weather gets colder, your skin will dryer. Swap out your summer moisturizer with something thicker to protect it during the Fall. My favorite one is the Peach Body Butter on Etsy.
  3. Vitamin C: Can brighten your complexion and protect against skin damage caused by sun exposure and harmful free radicals. My favorite Vitamin C product is the SuperNova serum from Herbivore Botanicals.
  4. Body Lotion: Like switching to a thicker moisturizer, you must also keep your body and skin healthy and hydrated with body lotion. I recommend getting the Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Lotion.
  5. Face Oil: Face oil serves as an extra layer of protection for your skin. During the Fall and Winter seasons, your face needs as much protection as possible. My favorite oil is Blue Lapis face oil from Herbivore Botanicals. But be warned that it is a bit pricey.
  1. Lip Balm or Blistex: Have you ever noticed how easily our lips get chapped once it’s cold? I have, so I will not walk around without one lip balm or Blistex in my purse. You can buy these at any local drugstore.
  2. Feet Cream: When the weather gets colder, your feet will start cracking because they are so dry from the boots. Keep them soft, smooth, and healthy with cream. Right now, I’m using this Peppermint cream from The Body Shop.
  3. Hand Cream: You cannot go through the Fall season without hand cream. We use our hands for everything, and protecting them from cold weather is essential. My favorite hand creams are at The Body Shop.
  4. Moisturizing Shower Gel: You cannot go through the Fall season without a moisturizing shower gel. This is important for adding additional protection to your body while getting clean. Grab this one from Dove on Amazon.
  5. Hydrating Toner: I love a good toner. It helps to brighten the skin. However, toners can be why you’re experiencing breakouts and hyperpigmentation in the Fall. So, picking a toner to hydrate and protect your skin from the cold is essential. My favorite Green Tea Toner can be found at Sephora.

How To Use These Fall Skincare Essentials

When using these fall skincare essentials, it’s essential to understand your skin and react to products. So before transitioning to the Fall, I recommend consulting with your dermatologist about which products would work best for your skin type. I will buy if they say these fall skincare essentials work well with your skin type.

    1. Caroline,

  3. I have not used Vitamin C facial care products yet, but they sound very promising! My skin definitely gets dry in the winter, so I’ve got some favorites when it comes to nourishing and hydrating my skin. Thanks for sharing so many options, will check them out.

    1. Hi,

I definitely recommend getting some vitamin C stuff, especially if you suffer from dry skin. What are your go-to products that you like?

  4. How does vitamin C help protect your skin? What’s the mechanism behind it? What are the benefits of using both a heavy moisturiser and a face oil at the same time?

    1. Adding vitamin C to your skin care routine can not only brighten your complexion but also protect against skin damage caused by sun exposure and harmful free radicals. It accelerates the production of both collagen and elastin, which help keep the skin plump and firm. Topical vitamin C can help prevent premature aging of the skin, restoring a youthful, smooth appearance to the skin.

To answer your second question: For people who suffer from extremely dry skin in the winter, using both can help keep it hydrated and moisturized for longer periods of time.

  5. Thanks for reminding me about my vitamin c, I use it every winter and it helps my skin. I also need to stock up on lip balm too and the winter chill does my lips no favours. Great post and I will look into the other products too. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Molly,

You’re welcome! Your not the only one who forgets to take care of the hands during the colder months, I struggle with this too.

  9. This is a great list. A good moisturizer and chapstick are SO important during the winter months, especially if you’re like us and have a fireplace in your living room that you’re running all the time once the temperature dips down enough. Sure, it does a great job of keeping us warm but it also dries out the air in our house considerably. We run a humidifier but we also need to keep it in mind when it comes to skincare!

    1. Britt,

I cannot imagine going to work without at least one blistex or chapstick in my purse. I live in an area where we keep the fan or AC, so it stays pretty cool on most days. But, once the snow hits our city, my skin tends to suffer a lot.

  10. I add a lot more oils and moisturizing to my skincare routine each fall. here fall normally means a lot of wind, it dries my skin a lot so I really need to work on it

    1. Lyosha,

My skin gets extremely dry, and I catch horrible acne during the colder months, so I try my best to stay hydrated and moisturize frequently.

  11. my skin gets so dry this time of year. lotions and moisturizers are a must! i’ve been really trying to have a proper skin care routine because my skin has been breaking out like no other lately. ugh
