Morning Self-Care Tips
- Wake up 15 minutes earlier than usual: Many researchers have found many health benefits to waking up early, such as reduced stress and anxiety, increased productivity, and improved sleep quality. In addition, people who wake up early have the energy to go about their day and don’t have to worry about experiencing low and negative energy levels.
- Eat a healthy breakfast: Healthy eating leads to a healthier lifestyle and decreases your chances of developing obesity, diabetes, certain cancers, and high blood pressure later in life.
- Reading a book early in the morning: can help wake up your brain and is a great way to practice mental health self-care. In addition, it’s a great way to stay inspired and motivated at the start of the day.
- Pray: If you’re spiritual or religious, praying before starting your day is a great way to give thanks and practice gratitude.
- Drink water: Swap out your cup of coffee or tea with a nice glass of water. Drinking water keeps you hydrated and helps the body to clear out toxins throughout the day and night. Drinking water has many health benefits, including improved heart health, weight loss, and even clearer skin.
- Stretch/Yoga: If you’re experiencing pain and tension, stretching to yoga is a great way to relieve that. Both help improve flexibility, increase blood flow, and relax your body.
- Please don’t use your phone for at least an hour after you wake up: Admit it. You probably check and respond to messages and alerts when you wake up. We’re all guilty of doing it. But, unfortunately, using your phone first thing in the morning distracts your brain and body from adequately maintaining itself. It can also make you less productive.
- Meditate: Like praying, meditating is a great way to stop and think about your planned day. Meditating first thing in the morning clears your mind and helps prevent stress and anxiety from creeping up on you.
- Write down what you’re grateful for: Finding time to practice gratitude is always good. It allows you to appreciate everything you have now and to stop dwelling on the past. In addition, it’s a good habit to get into because it teaches you to be more optimistic about the situations around you.

- Go for a 20-minute walk: Exercising reduces your chances of catching significant illnesses like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer. It is also a great way to remedy mental illnesses and boost self-esteem. Walking is an excellent cardio exercise that can quickly be done every morning for a short period without tiring you out.
- Listen to a podcast: Listening to a motivational podcast can inspire you to be more productive throughout the day. It also improves brain functionality by getting you to think about specific topics.
- Listen to soothing music: Listening to music has the same benefits as listening to a motivational podcast. It’s good for your mental and intellectual well-being.
- Always make your bed: Making your bed in the morning is an excellent way to increase productivity and start your day. If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the day’s first task, setting the tone for the rest of the day.
- Make your daily to-do list: To-do lists are perfect for organizing your daily tasks. If you forget things quickly, this is a good productivity habit to get into. Creating this list helps you to prioritize your tasks in order of importance. These come in many shapes, colors, and formats and can be easily found online.
- Take morning vitamins: Vitamins help to stimulate your metabolism and brain functions. Taking multivitamins and any B vitamins in the morning is the best way to ensure your body gets the necessary nutrients to survive and properly function throughout the day.
- Journal: Lots of people journal to help with relieving mental stressors. It’s an excellent way to release lingering negative feelings from the previous night. It also helps set the tone for how you want to feel throughout the day, clearing your mind and finding something positive to look forward to.

It’s really amazing what an extra 15 minutes can do! I was up 20 minutes early this am and so much less stressed!!
Great reminders to make a habit of everyday! The rest of our day literally depends on how we treat ourselves in the morning.
A really great list of self-care ideas, but only take vitamins if you’re deficient, otherwise you’re wasting money
Hi, I can understand why you would say that, but I disagree with this statement. I’m not deficient and I take vitamins because they make me feel better. Certain vitamins like C, A, and D help people with underlying conditions despite not being deficient.
Taking mornings vitamins are great. I started taking vitamins a few years ago and it has totally made difference in my day.
Same here!
I clearly have a few additional things to do in the morning. Thanks for the heads up. ?
haha you’re welcome
These tips are so important! I’m terrible at going on my phone first thing when I wake up xx
Me too, but I’ve started learning how to swap the phone with something else like a book or journal more recently.
Love these ideas! I find it so hard not going on my phone but it would definitely be a great challenge for me to try x
I think a lot of us do, especially if we use them for alarms or work.
I’m so bad about making my bed in the morning – and yes, the first thing I do when I wake up is grab my phone ?
This is a great list, though and a great reminder of simple things to do to improve your well-being!
hahaha I never make my bed, but yes! we should do these basic things to better care for ourselves.
I’m struggling with trying to get back into my morning routine at the moment. I got super lazy during COVID. Today was the first time I managed to get up at my set time and I did a 15 min Zumba routine followed by a shower and I have felt full of energy all day. I’m really bad at using my phone first thing too but I’m slowly trying to wean myself off it.
I’m so happy to hear that you’re working on these healthy habits and weaning yourself off the bad ones. I wish you the best of luck.
Great tips. You are right, selfcare does affect your life from the inside out.
Pamela,
I’m glad you agree.
