How To Romanticize Your Life In 30 Basic Ways

Give yourself that main character energy through mindfulness, presence, and gratitude in romanticizing your daily life.

As I get older, I’ve started to slow down my daily routines to appreciate the little things in the world around me. Sometimes my day-to-day can become a bit drab, but romanticizing it helped to improve the day. I wouldn’t describe it as benign narcissistic or over-the-top. For me, romanticizing my life means doing simple things that show kindness and make waking up every day worth it. It’s also about embracing that inner main character energy by prioritizing ourselves first.

I’ve been making the conscious decisions to be more intentional about my lifestyle, which led to self-care practices, morning routines, and rituals in which I romanticize my everyday mundane life and cultivate a unique sense of self-love from it.

Self-love, by definition, is the unique sense of appreciation, kindness, and compassion we have toward ourselves. It’s a sense of unconditional care toward our emotional, mental, and physical selves. While there are many ways to practice self-love, romanticizing life is my favorite because it adds excitement to a typical dull day.

What Does Romanticizing Mean?

Romanticizing is a recent social media phenomenon that describes celebrating yourself by making the most boring days extra exciting. Have you ever watched those cringy teen dramas where the main character suddenly grows after looking at the sunset? They watch the birds, the trees, and the sun and begin thinking about all the little things in their life that truly matter, such as true friendships, family, and being themselves. Although nothing remarkable happened, this tiny realization changed their life forever.

This is the main character’s energy that everyone keeps referring to. Romanticizing your life isn’t about making changes so that you can have that “fairy tale moment.” Instead, it’s about slowing down, noticing the minor things in your life, and appreciating the world around you.

Gratitude, presence, mindfulness, and perspective are the key to adequately romanticizing your life. It’s as simple as slowing down your morning routine to appreciate the sunrise or adding an extra ingredient to your meals to make them pop with more color. You can also romanticize yourself throughout the summer, winter, fall, and any season. You don’t have to change your life significantly to romanticize it. So, here are 30 essential ways to romanticize your everyday life.

30 Ideas For How To Romanticize Your Life

  1. Slow Down Your Everyday Routines: I hate rushing through my morning and night routines. I feel less in control and am more likely to make mistakes or forget something. If something has to get done or I need to be somewhere, I slowly and mindfully prepare for it while enjoying each step.
  2. Make Your Meals Fancy: Instead of boring avocado on toasted bread, why not spice it up with delicious vegetables or eggs? Make your meals more exciting with healthier toppings to make eating them a more enjoyable experience.
  3. Design Your Dream Night/Morning Routine: It’s no secret that I love a successful morning and night routine. They’re grounded in energizing or calming you down. But, when you work a traditional 9 AM to 5 PM schedule, these routines can seem boring. The solution? Make a routine that encourages, motivates, and inspires you, whether starting the day with some morning yoga routines or ending the night with a good book. Create a routine that fits your lifestyle and feels the best.
  4. Practice More Gratitude: Gratitude is one of the most important things to do in a romanticized lifestyle. Spend a little time daily appreciating the little things you have, such as fresh air and clean water. One of my favorite ways to practice gratitude is with the guided gratitude journal from Lovet Planners. You can save 15% with my referral code at https://go.referralcandy.com/share/KVRKT9V.
  5. Crack Open The Window: Do you know the scene in every fairytale film when the main character opens the window and dramatically breathes in the air? You should do the same thing. Open your window and take a moment to breathe in some fresh air, especially in the morning.
  6. Buy Yourself Flowers: You shouldn’t wait for your partner to surprise you with romantic flowers. Treat yourself to your favorite bouquet and show yourself romantic love.
  7. Write A Love Letter To Yourself: Handwritten letters can make people feel loved, appreciated, and cared for. Take time out of your busy day to practice self-love by writing a solo love letter. Compliment yourself, make yourself feel good, and save the letter for the next time you feel down.
  8. Do An Energizing Fitness Routine: Every movie has a scene where the main character does an all-out and energizing fitness routine to pump themselves up. Be your hype person and do an energizing fitness routine with push-ups, jumping jacks, cardio, and workouts that feel good.
  9. Pamper Yourself: Outside your normal self-care routines, you should do something extra to pamper yourself. This can be getting a manicure or pedicure, having a spa day, or even taking the time to exfoliate head to toe. Pamper yourself with something that’ll make you feel better than your normal routines.
  10. Practice Positive Affirmations: I’ve talked about this a lot. But nothing is better than speaking to yourself positively. Reading affirmations is one of my favorite self-love and care practices. Start here for plenty of affirmations to choose from.
  11. Get Dressed Like It’s A Special Occasion: You don’t need a reason to indulge and feel good. Wear your favorite outfit, put on makeup, accessorize with jewelry, and put on your fancy shoes. By putting on your best outfit, you’ll get the confidence to carry into the remainder of your day.
  12. Create A Curated Playlist For Your Life: You need a special playlist that resonates with you to live like the main character of a cheesy rom-com truly. Choose your favorite songs to create a soundtrack that’ll relax, energize, inspire, and always make you feel good.
  13. Engage Your Senses: Close your eyes. Think about what you hear, smell, touch, and taste. How does it make you feel? Is your body reacting to the sounds and sensations around you? Take a moment to reflect on this.
  14. Go On A Solo Date: Dates are not only reserved for special evenings with your partner or friends. Take yourself out on a date to enjoy your favorite activities or to explore something new.
  1. Unplug From Technology: As a society, we spend much time on social media and online services. Spend a night or morning away from technology to look for your life answers.
  2. Go Enjoy Nature: Spending time outdoors with nature can boost your energy and improve your overall mental health. I like to spend a little time walking around the local community garden and smelling the flowers before work. The sunlight helps me to feel more awake, and the act of sniffing calms my daily anxiety.
  3. Create A Vision Board: I love creating vision boards and setting goals. Vision boards help me to imagine the life I want to create, especially in romanticizing it. Use vision boards to manifest a romantic lifestyle by using soft pastel colors, cozy-themed images, and anything that inspires a romantic feel.
  4. Surround yourself with beautiful scents: Nothing screams romantic more than a good-smelling home. Use your favorite scented candles or diffusers to set up a warm and welcoming atmosphere around your home that equally smells good.
  5. Pleasure Yourself: Yes, you read that correctly. Pleasure yourself. Sex should not only be for couples. One of my favorite podcasters, Emily from Sex with Emily, often talks about the importance of discovering oneself physically and emotionally. I agree with her. Spend some time getting to know yourself sexually, physically, and emotionally. Plus, it’s an excellent way to practice some self-care.
  6. Be More Intentional: Every morning, I try to be intentional with my time by slowing down and keeping my phone silent. Being more intentional in romanticizing your life is as simple as not multitasking or decluttering your to-do list.
  7. Tune Into Yourself: Ask yourself, “What do you need right now?” Stop and take a moment and listen to yourself. Align your actions with your needs.
  8. Eat Mindfully: Turn eating into a romantic experience by fully enjoying it from beginning to end. Slow down your chewing and savor each bite. Enjoy the different flavors swirling on your tongue and taste buds. Listen to your body. Enjoy the meal.
  9. Create A Loving Environment Online & Offline: Surround yourself with people and things that bring peace, joy, and happiness. Make sure to follow positive accounts and unfollow the ones that bring self-doubt and lowers self-esteem.
  10. Focus On One Thing At A Time: Enjoy completing each task one by one with clarity and calmness. Let yourself fully immerse yourself into that single thing and put out your best work.
  11. Practice Self-Compassion: Part of romanticizing your life includes pouring love, appreciation, and compassion into yourself. Instead of constantly putting yourself down for the things you cannot do, appreciate the things you can do. If you’re criticizing yourself for a mistake, flip your mindset to reflect growth and reflection.
  12. Create A Scrapbook Or List Of Happy Moments: Spend some time collecting photos or moments in your life that brought you happiness. Turn them into a scrapbook, list, or digital film you can return to whenever you need a quick pick-me-up.
  13. Read A Classic or Romance Novel: Find your favorite classic or romance novels and revel in their magical stories. Allow yourself to fully invest in each character’s plotline, the overarching themes, storytelling, and scenarios passing through the pages.
  14. Fill Your Calendar With Meaningful Events: Make sure your life is filled with events that bring you joy, such as movie dates, coffee grabs, or business networking events. When you do this, socializing will feel less like a chore and more like a necessity.
  15. Organize Your Space: Romanticizing your life includes creating a space that is aesthetically pleasing to you. For example, have cozy blankets and soft candles if you want a comfortable hygge life. Create a home that you will genuinely appreciate living in that matches your dream lifestyle.
  16. Be True To You: The biggest lesson the main character learns in every rom-com is to be unapologetically themselves. There is no reason to change who you are for the sake of a specific lifestyle or other people. Be yourself, love yourself, and things will eventually fall into place.
