Did your self-esteem tank throughout the pandemic? If so, you’re not alone. Since most of us were quarantined at home, many gained weight, unhealthy habits, and even lost interest in a few hobbies.

However, now that the pandemic is slowing down and the world is slowly reopening, it’s time to stop working, put yourself out there, and begin practicing summer self-love.

The summer season is perfect for taking well-deserved time off from work to relax, have fun, and care for yourself. Slow down and ease into a regular self-love and self-care routine this season. It’s also the perfect time to show yourself love and care during a season filled with weight loss ads and unnecessary bikini photos. This post will discuss simple ways to practice summer self-care and love.

Why Is Self-Love Important Throughout The Summer?

Please raise your hand if you recently tried to get a summer body or have seen a recent weight loss advertisement. I know I have.

Every summer, companies start promoting their latest dieting plans, pills, drinks, and products with the promise of helping you achieve your weight loss goals. However, the constant pressure to purchase these products can result in body dysphoria, low self-esteem, self-hatred, depression, and so much more.

With these products and services constantly promoted, it starts a vicious self-hating cycle that can be difficult to break for someone who suffers from mental health and eating disorders such as depression, bulimia, anorexia, bipolar disorder, anxiety,..etc.

That’s why practicing summer self-love and care is more critical now than ever. So, here are five ways to practice self-love with summer self-care.

Summer Self-Love Tips

Block/Unfollow Toxic Weight Loss Accounts

The best summer self-love tip is to unfollow those Instagram “weight loss experts” who claim to know the secret to achieving the perfect body for the summer season. One of the main reasons most women suffer from low self-esteem and body image issues is that they think there is only one way to look beautiful.

By eliminating these toxic influencers, you’re giving yourself the chance to practice the ultimate form of self-love this summer.

You can live slightly healthier, lose weight, and practice self-love this summer without following those toxic influencers or weight loss experts; instead of forcing yourself to blend into society’s physical expectations, practice summer self-care and embrace your body.

The most important things to do when practicing self-love during a weight loss journey are shifting your mindset, knowing yourself, and finding confidence. I recommend reading this blog post to learn more about how weight loss and self-love can go hand in hand.

Practice Mindful Journaling

If you’ve read any of my previous blog posts, you know why I love to journal. Journaling is such a significant self-improvement, self-care, and mental health tool. This summer, journaling for self-love is an excellent way to reflect, tend to your emotional needs, connect with yourself, and practice mindfulness.

Journaling has many health benefits, such as improved mental health, reduced stress, increased energy, and boosted mood. In addition, using a journaling app or physical hand-written diary to practice self-love this summer will help you see your personal growth, have fun, and assist with passing the time.

Drink Lots Of Water

I don’t know if you know this, but drinking water during the summer is more important than in other seasons. Our bodies regulate temperature and stay cool through sweating. Since we sweat a lot during the summer, we must consistently remain hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.

A person should have eight glasses or roughly two liters of water daily. You should drink approximately two and a half liters during the warmer months. Sticking with water is the best way to stay hydrated. Drinking water is one of the most basic forms of summer self-love there is out there. It’s easy to do and costs nothing when using steel or a reusable water bottle.

Reorganize Something

Who doesn’t enjoy a little summer cleaning? Reorganizing your home, moving, or rearranging items can be a relaxing and fun way to pass the time and practice some self-care during the summer. In addition, being organized can help you feel calmer, more focused, and in control of life situations. Also, rearranging your home makes you feel productive and requires less mental energy throughout the day.

My favorite way to practice summer self-care by organizing is by moving furniture around or swapping things out from my storage unit. However, the house furniture is sometimes heavier and requires the mover’s assistance. If you live in NY or NJ and need help finding a quick mover, I recommend checking out these New Jersey last-minute movers.

Last-minute moves such as All In One Moving and Storage Inc., located in New Jersey, can quickly help meet the demand for outsourcing last-minute moving tasks. This company offers various moving services to fit multiple needs, such as a full packing service, fragile-only packing service, standard self-packing, unpacking, debris removal, storage, and more.

As mentioned, reorganizing and moving your home around is a relaxing and calm way to practice summer self-care and love. In addition, an organized home promotes a happier and more positive outlook, which means you’ll be more likely to overcome challenging situations or see the good in some of them.

Get Adequate Rest

Sleeping is the most basic form of self-love and care. On average, young adults between 18 and 30 should get 8 to 10 hours of sleep daily. Sleep is vital because it allows your body and mind to recharge before the following day. When you get enough rest, you wake up refreshed and ready to tackle the world.

You need a good night’s rest to function correctly. In addition, since the sun sets later, it’s harder for us to sleep and more difficult. Not getting enough sleep can also lead to several health problems, such as feeling emotionally drained, physical exhaustion, and mental health illnesses.

How To Practice Consistent Self Love and Care?

Practicing summer self-love and care will help you feel the happiest this season. Since you will constantly be surrounded by people in bikinis, crop tops, and shorts this year, finding ways to care for yourself this season while not worrying about anyone else is crucial.

Self-love and care help the body to recognize what it needs and wants daily. However, life situations can get in the way of caring for ourselves, ultimately resolving many physical and mental health issues. One of the best ways to consistently practice self-love and care is to incorporate it into your daily routine.

A daily routine will help you stay on track with your daily tasks and visualize your day.

The summer is the perfect season to practice some self-love. Thanks for reading this post.

  5. I’m loving these ideas. I gained weight during the pandemic because all I did was eat, ugh! I need to work on my hydration though, I was chugging a glass of ice-cold water and my EMT friend told me not to do that because I could end up passing out from putting my body in sick, who knew? I’m trying to practice more self-love and self-care, I’ve fallen off the wagon a little. Thanks for these little reminders.

    1. Hi Samantha, I hope you can find your way back to loving and caring for yourself. I struggled with gaining weight during the pandemic too, but am working toward being healthy which doesn’t necessarily mean weight loss.

  6. As a general rule, just don’t follow any account on social media that doesn’t make you happy. If you’re following an account that makes you feel bad about how you look, then get rid of them life’s too short to be made to feel ‘less’

  7. Lovely post! I agree with all of these especially blocking/unfollowing toxic weight loss accounts and journaling. Tho social media has its benefits, the things we see on there can really impact us negatively and so I always make sure to follow people that add value to my life. Also, I love journaling a lot and for me, it is therapeutic. It can help me get through my worst days.

    1. Hi Ruth!

  10. I am into journaling too and it always helps. I need to keep reminding myself to drink water. I have noticed that the days I don’t drink enough water i am irritable.

    1. Without drinking enough water, you can definitely fall victim to feeling irritable and even tired. I try to carry at least 2 water bottles on me at all times. Hope this helps.

  11. What a positive post! I definitely had some emotional stuff come up during this pandemic and it’s been hard finding my footing again – the key is 100% in self-care and self-love! Journaling and meditation have been some of the best things for me as well as reorganizing and purging things that no longer serve me so I can free up space for the wonderful magnificent things that are coming my way! 🙂

    1. Hi Lulu,

Thank you so much. Throughout this pandemic, learning how to practice self-care and journal has definitely helped me to push through the tough times. I just started learning how to meditate through yoga.

  12. There are some great tips here. I really try to focus on rest and relaxation during the summer, but it’s not always easy lol The best thing that my husband and I have done to help with this is to plan trips camping where we have no wifi or data connections. it forces me to step away from work for a bit so that I can relax and recoup. We book a minimum of one weekend every month from April to October (my husband isn’t interested in winter camping yet lol).

    1. Hi Brit,

I can agree that relaxing during the summer isn’t always easy, especially for full-time employees. A companion trip sounds amazing!

I love what you said. If you cannot love yourself, then how are you supposed to love someone else?

  16. I need to order a new journal! I told myself I would last week and forgot. Thanks for the reminder! Focusing on drinking more water and getting out more for walks in the evening has been a big priority for me lately, and it is really helpful for both my body and my mind.

    1. Hi Erica,

I agree. I’ve been trying to drink more water, exercise, and journal more often. Lately I’ve been in a better mood because of it.
