Best Mental Health and Well-being Self-Help Books
Good Vibes, Good Life* by Vex King
This book was super popular and hyped over on TikTok and Instagram for a while, and with good reason! It’s been a while since I read this, but I remember it leaving a lasting impact on my mental health and well-being. I also highlighted and underlined some of my favorite quotes in it so I can always flick through them to better my mindset when I’m having a particularly bad day.
If you’re interested in manifestation or achieving a more positive mindset, this is definitely the book for you. It’s all about increasing your vibrations by changing your thoughts and surrounding yourself with healthier, more positive things.
Here are some of my favorite quotes throughout the book:
- ‘You are not your thoughts. You are the witness of each thought.’
- ‘You’re only one positive thought away from a more desirable outcome.’
- ‘Your mentality forms your reality.’
- ‘You can’t move forward with thoughts that hold you back.’
- ‘Because most people don’t accept themselves, they search for flaws in others.’
Reasons To Stay Alive* by Matt Haig
I read this book a year ago, and it appeared when I needed it most. This book explores the reality of depression and how debilitating it can be for those who live with it. I have posts about depression on my blog, such as Common Misconceptions About Clinical Depression, as I suffer from depression and other mental illnesses myself.
Matt Haig’s book was helpful as it wasn’t at all patronizing and was extremely relatable. Haig is a survivor of depression himself, so many of the things he said resonated with me and made me feel much less alone. He speaks about the ugly parts of depression that many sufferers, such as myself, tend to be ashamed of and hide. I definitely recommend this book if you suffer from depression or would like to learn more about it.
Witch, Please* by Victoria Maxwell
I wasn’t sure whether to include a Wiccan/Witchy book in this post, but this book greatly helps my mental well-being! You don’t have to be a Witch or practice Wiccan to gain positivity from this book, so I thought I’d include it anyway. However, if you want to learn more about Wicca or you’re Wiccan yourself, I have a post about Wicca and Witchcraft for Beginners that you can read.
This book explores how to regain control over your life and discover your purpose. It includes dates you can take yourself on, tips on how to love yourself more and be more independent, and ideas to make your house more cozy and personal. I always pick up this book when I’m feeling low or need some inspiration to get my life together and get back on track, so I’d definitely recommend it!
So, there we have it!
Those are my top 3 mental health and well-being self-help books to improve your self-love and confidence. I hope these books help you to practice self-care and feel more tranquil and peaceful throughout your day. Once again, thanks to Riyah for allowing me to write this guest post, and I hope you all enjoyed it!

I actually saw Reasons to Stay Alive in the bookshop the other day & although I didn’t buy, I was really drawn to it. At some point I will read it.
Seriah Sargenton says
It’s a great book!
Unwanted Life says
I don’t think this first self-help book would work for me. Saying that you’re just one positive thought away from a better outcome is just not true, so it sounds like that kind of book that would grate at me
Seriah Sargenton says
That’s okay, not every mental health book will work for you. But, the other two books Sophie listed are great!

Great suggestions here! I don’t read many books in this genre but I love the sound of Good Vibes, Good Life – I’ve been trying to turn my mindset around into something more positive recently so I think it would really help. I know a couple of my friends would really appreciate Reasons To Stay Alive too! Thank you so much for sharing x
Charity says

OFC Charity. Please let me know if there are any other books I should add to my list.

These are both great suggestions, they sound like they’d be great reads. I also love the title of “Witch Please” that alone would make me pick up the book to see what it was all about.
Seriah Sargenton says
Me too, Witch Please sounds like such an interesting novel. I’m actually buying it soon!
Lyosha says
I am very curious to try and read “Witch, please”, I am not Wiccan but I am very curious about various approaches. I am very happy you included that book in the list, I think the more unusual creative self help approach is the better it is for your mind
Seriah Sargenton says
I’ve never thought of it like that. I guess learning new things and stepping out of your usual mindset is beneficial.
Melanie williams says
I have been looking into a few books for wellbeing, so I am glad that I have come across your post, thank you x
Seriah Sargenton says
You’re welcome Melanie, I hope you enjoy these reads.
Erica (The Prepping Wife) says
I’m not normally a fan of self-help books, but these actually sound interesting. I like the title, Witch Please. That is the one I’d like to check out the most.

Witch, Please is such an interesting read.
