With Summer well underway and life starting to move along now, it’s super important that we take care of ourselves in every aspect of our lives. However, when people talk about self-care, it’s easy to overlook our Physical Health. Of course, making sure we practice all types of self-care is highly important, but our Physical Health needs to be a priority just as much as our mental health does.
So, I wanted to share 5 Acts of Self-Care to do This Summer for your Physical Health.
Why it’s essential to take care of our physical health.
Taking care of our bodies is super important because this is our house for life. We will always be in our bodies and carry them with us for years to come. So, it’s only natural that we should be taking care of our bodies to make sure that we feel good, perform well and have an overall better quality of life. As someone with a chronic illness, I know just how imperative it is to make sure I’m taking care of my physical health just as much as I take care of my mental health.
There are many ways to focus on our physical health, from proper nutrition to getting up and moving. So with that in mind, the summertime is the perfect time to get up and get out more to focus on our physical health.
Here are 5 ways in which you can practice self-care for your physical health this summer.
Go out for a walk
With summer comes the nice weather, which means it’s the perfect time to get out and get active. Going for walks is a great way to get your body moving. Getting enough exercise can help lower your risk of certain diseases and keep your body stiff. Walking for just 30 minutes a day has lots of benefits such as:
- Reducing your risk of heart disease
- Building your strength
- Increasing your muscle strength
- Helps improve the management of high blood pressure and stiff joints
- And more!
As well as all those health benefits, it can also have a knock-on effect on our mental health. Getting out in nature can help you clear your mind, practice mindfulness and improve your mood. Walking is an easy exercise activity that doesn’t feel like you’re exercising. It’s also a fabulous form of Self-Care! It’s a win-win.

Drink enough water
Drinking enough water may not seem like your typical act of Self-Care, but trust me, it is! It’s essential to make sure you’re keeping up your water intake. Staying hydrated, especially in the warmer months of summer, helps to keep your body functioning at its best. When we don’t drink enough, it can impact our joints and muscles, making our bodies sluggish. Water also helps with keeping an average temperature, protecting our spinal cord and other sensitive tissues.
Some tips on getting your water intake
- Get a water bottle with times on it to help you drink enough
- Get a water bottle with a built-in infuser that allows you to add fruit
- Download a water reminder app that will enable you to also track your water intake
- Start your day with a glass of cold water
Eat a balanced diet.
Nourishing your body with the right food is vital for maintaining good health. Eating a healthy, balanced diet can help you feel your best. When you’re eating a well-balanced diet with fruit, veg, carbs, proteins, etc.. it will help your overall health and help protect you against so many non-communicable diseases, like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.
Fueling our bodies with the right food is an act of self-care. It’s a daily conscious act of looking after yourself. Of course, you should limit food with too much sugar, saturated fats, and industrially produced trans-fats. But don’t feel like you shouldn’t be eating your favorite foods or buying into toxic diet culture. You can still eat the foods you enjoy while ensuring your diet is balanced and maintaining overall health. What’s most important is that you’re eating and getting your daily intake of vitamins, fiber, minerals, and more.
Get a good sleep
Getting a night of good sleep is imperative to have good health! Most adults need 7-8 hours of good quality sleep to help their brains function at their full potential. When we don’t get the right amount of sleep, it can leave us feeling sluggish and tired the rest of the day, not to mention how it can impact our overall physical and mental wellbeing.
Getting enough sleep as much as possible helps us lower our risk of heart problems, think more clearly, get sick less often and more. So, make sure you’ve got a good sleep schedule in place and try to stick to it.
Practice Yoga
Practicing Yoga can be a great way to improve your physical and mental health at the same time. It allows you to slow down a little, carve out time for you and help to strengthen your core. There are so many benefits to Yoga, such as;
- Improving your strength & balance
- Helps ease pain
- Helps you sleep better
- Helps you relax
What’s excellent about Yoga is it can be practiced outside as well. With the summer here, it’s the perfect time to get out in your garden or to a local park to get your Yoga time in. Or, you could even join a local Yoga class!
I hope you enjoyed these five simple and easy ways to practice Self-Care for your Physical Health. Taking care of our bodies and mind is so important now more than ever. So, make sure you’re taking care of yourself in the best way possible.

You’re so right. I have a habit of forgetting to eat regularly in the summer. It’s a bad pattern that I need to work on.
Getting a water drinking app is something I’m going to do right now, as sometimes I need reminding when I’m busy. Thanks for sharing.
Im the same! It’s so easy to forget to eat regularly I think but an important part of our physical self-care. Glad my water drinking app tip has helped!

Me too! I’m trying to get into the habit of drinking more water by setting alarms on my phone .
I love these reminders — which I really need. I have to work on the healthier eating (got into a bit of a negative rut recently) and improve my sleep. Thanks for the info and motivation!
Awe, I hope you feel better soon. It can be more difficult to care for yourself when you’re feeling down. Start small and work your way up.
Eating a balanced diet is my favorite form of self-care. Healthy foods make my body feel good and cookies make my soul happy lol. Great tips!
hahaha I felt you on this one. Cookies make me happy too.
Love these tips! I really ought to do some yoga – it really helps my lower back, especially when I’m on my period. x
OMG yes, Yoga is a life saver for the lower back and breast pain (if you have big ones).
Thank you for having me! It was great writing this post, especially when physical health is just as important as our mental health when it comes to self care.

Getting a good night sleep can really help you doing the day. When I don’t get enough sleep I feel it throughout the day.
Same here, like yesterday, I was out of it.
I wish my quality of sleep was a choice, then I could fix it. I don’t seem to be randomly waking up several times a night anymore, but I still wake up at 5am no matter what
I absolutely love this post! I feel like people massively underestimate the power just going for a walk has! So peaceful. Also, I’m mega guilty of not getting enough sleep lol.

Taking a walk is probably one of my favorite forms of physical self-care. It’s relaxing, but also a great form of exercise.
Agreed!
I definitely feel like getting outside really helps me, and I also finding waking up early and watching the sunrise, it helps me have a perfect start to the day!
Me too. I love waking up slightly early to get a good skincare routine in, which helps in the morning.
Thanks for these reminders. I need to up my water intake and the tips for doing this are great!
YES! You need to drink more water, especially in the morning.
