How Can Men Benefit From Self-Care
The key to men’s health is self-care. It’s all about how men use their free time to rest, relax, and care for their emotional and physical wants and needs. Self-care is the simple act of taking care of oneself. It can be as simple as indulging in your favorite snack on the weekends or exercising for a few minutes daily. Good self-care allows fathers to live in the present and be better men to their families and loved ones.
Now that you understand the importance of self-care for men, here are 20 Father’s Day self-care ideas for dads.

- Exercise: I know some ladies out there love a man with a Dad body, but that doesn’t mean he cannot care for himself. Training is essential to self-care because it will help him maintain his physical, mental, and emotional health. Many men use fitness as self-care and to deal with negative emotions. So, why not hit the gym for some physical activity?
- Get a Massage: If your dad works a lot, then chances are his back, neck, and feet are always in pain. If he’s off on Father’s Day, he should treat himself to a deep tissue massage at the local spa. If there is no local spa, you could always treat him to an old-fashioned massage– you know, the one that requires your hands and a bit of elbow strength.
- Get Some Rest: Getting adequate rest should be a no-brainer. Yet, so many men tend to sacrifice their sleep for the sake of their families, jobs, and others. Since it’s Father’s Day, he should sleep a few extra hours because even men need beauty sleep.
- Meditate: Meditating is a great way for Dad to relax and calm his nerves. This is the perfect self-care idea if he gets stressed, angry, or agitated. Meditation helps the body recognize and deal with stress, nervousness, and anxiety. It’s also a great way to practice spiritual self-care.
- Go Out With Friends: Socializing and maintaining positive relationships is an integral part of practicing self-care. Positive relationships have proven health benefits, such as improved mental health, increased energy, and improved physical wellness.
- Indulge in a Hobby: Doing a hobby is a great way to get creative and practice intellectual self-care. Dad can learn new skills and increase his knowledge by dedicating time to developing his favorite hobby.
- Journal: I will continue advocating for people to journal, especially Dad. Journaling is a great way to release negative emotions, write out your feelings, and deal with life situations. In addition, there are many health benefits to journaling, and Dad should consider them all for practicing self-care this Father’s Day.
- Get Creative: Creativity feeds the heart, soul, and mind. It’s a great way to practice self-care and help Dad connect with his inner self.
- Build Something: Dad can channel his emotions and turn them into something creative and practical by using his hand.
- Do a Skincare Routine: A good skincare routine is essential to self-care. But some men don’t. So, fellas, it’s time to make yourself feel good by practicing your favorite skincare routine. For some, this may be shaving and moisturizing the face; for others, it’s prepping and using a face mask.
- Take a Hot Bath: A hot bath is a great way to relax, increase muscle recovery time, and clean the body. You don’t necessarily need to add sweet rose petals and essential oils to the bath to do this. Sometimes, using your favorite soap or letting yourself soak is more than enough.
- Take a Break: Yes, Dad needs to take care of the house and his family, but he deserves a break too. Taking breaks allows Dad to remove himself from high stressors and to breathe. It’s a great way to avoid getting overwhelmed with emotion and, at the same time, taking back his time.
- Grab a Beer: I know it’s not good to promote alcoholism, but Dad deserves to have fun too. So, let him grab a beer and watch his favorite sports team on the television.
- Read a Feel Good Book: Reading is an excellent way to stimulate the brain, relax, grow communication skills, and engage the imagination.
- Practice Self-Kindness: Men tend to be harder on themselves, especially when caring for and providing for their families. Dad needs to stop being his critic and bringing himself down. Instead, teach Dad how to do this with affirmations and positive self-talk.
- Eat Healthily: Eating healthy is good for the body, mind, and soul. Making healthier eating choices is important because it affects overall wellness. Some benefits of healthy eating choices include improved mood and energy, a lower mortality rate, and decreased chances of suffering from mental illnesses.
- Practice Deep Breathing: Deep breathing teaches the brain to calm down when stressed or overstimulated. It’s also an excellent way to destress after an extremely long day. Here are some of my favorite deep breathing exercises.
- Practice Gratitude: Gratitude teaches people to appreciate the little things in life, be more thankful, and be in the present. Sometimes, Dad has a bad habit of thinking too far into the future or being unappreciative. Help Dad be grateful by getting him a gratitude journal or helping him make a list.
- Detox From Social Media: While social media is excellent for connecting with loved ones and sharing your life, it can harm one’s overall mental health. Taking a social media detox will help Dad improve his general confidence, self-esteem, and mental health, and the best part is that he doesn’t have to do it for long.
- Buy Himself a Gift: Since Father’s Day is about the dad, why can’t he buy himself a gift? It’s okay to splurge some cash on himself and what he wants for once.

These are some great ideas. I know my biggest challenge as a dad is to find time for myself. So I typically stay up a little later than I would like so I can have a few hours in the evening to relax and unwind. Whether I play a video game or watch some TV. Thanks for the tips.
