The holiday season is here, and as exciting and magical as it is, it can also become very stressful. The season being here means that we’re coming to the end of the year, along with worrying about gifts, possibly dealing with one of the busiest times for your job or business, and the stress of being bombarded with personal questions from family members. You must also consider getting life together before entering a new year.

If those aren’t stressful enough, that’s just the surface of what different people go through during the season, but it shouldn’t be that way. Of course, it can be easier said than done, but everyone deserves to enjoy their holiday season. I’m sharing six ways to help you stress less and enjoy the season more!

How To Stress Less This Holiday Season

1. Don’t Focus On The Gifts.

It’s no secret that Christmas has become a contest for who can give the best gifts. When you love someone, I know you want to give them something they’ve always wanted or what you think they deserve. However, that forces you to put a lot of stress and pressure on yourself to give your loved ones gifts and the best gifts.

The reality is that sometimes you can’t afford to do that. I know it may not be the best feeling, but it’s important to remember that gifts should be the last thing anyone focuses on. Also, it may sometimes be better to give fewer gifts than usual some years. The reason for the season isn’t just about gifts but togetherness. So focus on being with your loved ones and less on monetary gifts.

2. Treat Yourself.

You’ve likely worked hard all year, especially if you’re also a content creator/ business owner. Of all the days in the year, how often have you permitted yourself a little treat? You don’t need the holidays to treat yourself, but if you don’t like to do so unless there’s a good reason, this is it! You deserve to do something special that you enjoy. So, while you’re running all over the place worried about getting others, don’t forget to give yourself something!

3. Remember To Take Breaks.

Breaks are necessary during any time of the year, but getting lost in the hustle and bustle can become easy. You can become burnt out, drained, and stressed if you’re not taking any breaks. Take the time for a breather. Those few minutes are better than nothing, even if you only have five minutes. Listen to your body when you feel like things are becoming too much. The point is not to break yourself down because you won’t even be able to help yourself, let alone be there for others. It’s impossible to fill the cup of others when yours is empty.

4. Spend More Time With Family And Friends.

As I’ve stated in my first point, you should focus more on being together with your loved ones this season. I understand that sometimes being with family can bring on more stress, but try to only hang around the ones that don’t stress you out. Spending time and laughing with people you love is the ultimate stress reliever. You could have the worst week, but letting go and having fun can help release the stress or worry. It’s also important to remember that these past couple of years have taught us that life is short and we should take the time to see others as often as possible.

5. Keep Boundaries In Place.

This one might end up being one of my essential points. Although it’s necessary to keep your space from stressful family members, sometimes it becomes inevitable that you’ll see them. When there are big family gatherings, one member or member is bound to be there. You must set boundaries for yourself to maintain your peace and mental sanity.

You know what you’re not OK with happening before you set foot in that environment. If anything happens that you’re not OK with, you have the right to speak up for yourself and ultimately leave if it gets to that point. It might not seem like that big of a deal to some of your family members, but it is, and you deserve a stress-free holiday season.

6. Remember To Have Fun.

Last but not least, remember to have fun! The holidays are supposed to be fun, and there’s no one way to do so. Something I love about Christmas and the holidays is that I feel like a kid again, in a way. I love decorating the tree and blasting music while drinking eggnog. So find something fun that you love to do and do it! It could be Christmas-related or not. All that matters is you’re releasing the stress and enjoying yourself!

The holidays are not meant to be stressful, and we all need to get back to realizing this. However, I understand that life tends to get in the way more and more as we get older. As a result, too much time is spent stressing throughout the year. So take the time this season to focus on you and your well-being, and enjoy the holiday season!
