4 Ways To Become More Self-Aware

Learn how to become the best version of yourself throughout your personal development journey with these 4 tips for becoming more self-aware.

Living in a world where we constantly compare ourselves to others can have the sad result of losing ourselves while trying to be more like everyone we see on social media.

To be authentically yourself, you have to be fully aware of who you indeed are – your weaknesses, your strengths, your beliefs, your goals, your personality, your motivations, and your morals.

You are made of this and must realize that all those aspects can change and improve. In this guide, I will give you tips on increasing your self-awareness to become the best version of yourself.

Attracting Awareness

It’s easier said than done, we know! But it all starts with a suggestion to your brain, which can then get it through its filter and allow it to impact how you feel, think, and experience. Learning how to become more conscious or aware of yourself is key to personal growth, improving your overall wellbeing, becoming more confident, and developing a deep understanding of the world around.

The act of self-awareness involves knowing how to truly see you strengths and weaknesses, recognizing how the world perceives you, and understanding your life purpose for being in this world. With true self-awareness, you can make a difference in improving the lives of others and yourself.

So, let’s look at the four things you can do to become more self-aware!

Get To Know You

Have you ever sat down with yourself and asked, “Who am I?”

And more importantly, could you answer that question if it was posed?  The first step in building a healthy awareness of yourself is understanding who you truly are when you look at yourself objectively.

You could start by writing down your perceptions of yourself if you look at yourself objectively and from an outside perspective. During this process, you shouldn’t compare yourself to others but rather look at yourself as an individual without comparisons while looking at your accomplishments, interests, beliefs, and personality.

Granted, you will never be able to map out your entirety on paper, but you can get to know the most frequently occurring patterns you have that make the most of your life.

Journaling

One of the best ways to keep track of your daily emotions, reactions, and feelings is to keep a journal in which you write down those things. It’s amazing how putting pen to paper can put things into perspective.

Writing down your feelings, thoughts, failures, and successes of the day will give you a new view on dealing with things.  Journaling is a means of self-reflection to see your strengths and weaknesses, giving you the objective perspective to change bad reactions in the future.

If you’re ever having problems with free-writing, you can use guided journal prompts to help you look into your inner self. Recording your daily act and reaction will also help you clear your mind and open space for positive energy.

Mindful Habits

During our daily lives, we can become quite robotic, as if we are on autopilot, just cruising through our schedules, and before we know it, weeks and months have flown by.  We must be more mindful of our actions to savor every moment of the day. This means being aware of good and bad habits while enforcing better practices.

Trying to keep up with a fast-paced world can keep us from enjoying small pleasures like breathing in fresh air or simply going for a stroll around the neighborhood. Which tasks during your day give you a sense of serenity, calmness, and happiness?

Is it washing the dishes, meditating, cooking, or exercising?  Ensure that you do these kinds of activities more!

Ask Feedback

Even though it might be a bit scary, knowing what our friends, family, and colleagues think about us and our behavior is essential. Ask those closest to you to give an honest, open, critical, and objective description of who they see you as to understand better what people genuinely think of you.

Honest feedback from people around us will give us a better idea of who we are and how our behavior affects our everyday lives.

You must remain open-minded and non-offensive during an open feedback session from a friend. Listening with an open heart might help you recognize something within yourself you never knew was there.

In The End

To be more self-aware, switch off your devices and go inward to discover the true you. Once you contact the authentic person inside, you’ll, exit the primary sequence of emotional and behavioral patterns, opening room for new experiences and things.

Self-awareness is one of the key pillars in becoming an emotionally intelligent person. To develop proper self-awareness, you have to be willing to set aside time for growth. This means using the above tips to accurately asses where you are and acting accordingly.
